What a Year!

31 December, 2010 (13:48) | designing, KALs and Clubs | By: janle

Here we are at the end of another year – where does the time go! It was a big one all round Chez Le Cras. Daughters 21st , my 50th and my Mum & Dads Golden Wedding.

It was also a big one on the design front too. I lectured on a cruise ship, released 2 new Shawl KALs and several other patterns, was commissioned for a pattern by Yarn Forward magazine, had 2 designs accepted for a new book and hooked up with the Fiber Fiction people to do designs based on their stories.

The first of them was released with the Christmas story

Malabrigo Silky: teal grey on 4.5mm needles

you can get the pattern here ( it’s free)

and you can read the story that inspired it here

I’m currently ( along with my test knitters) testing the pattern for the next KAL shawl

It is based on the original Hans Christian Anderson version of The Little Mermaid, and this time we are giving people the chance to knit either a fingering weight or laceweight shawl. The design is mainly the same, just a few adjustments such as numbers of repeats to make them roughly the same size.  It is causing  lot more work – we have 4 versions to test knit ( fingering weight with charts or with written instructions & Laceweight with charts or written instructions) but I think it will be worth it . I’m about to start clue 6 of 8 on my laceweight version and I love it so far.

Lets hope for another fruitful design year next year – I have several ideas in my head – just need to find time to get them down on paper and then on the needles.

Have a lovely New Year celebration and I’ll see you on the other side xxx
